Victor started his research experience in tissue engineering, before realizing that chemistry was his true interest. Working in Prof. Nathaniel Szymczak’s group at the University of Michigan, Victor gained experience with ligand design for catalytic applications. IN particular, he investigated the impact of secondary sphere effects on ruthenium-catalyzed transferhydrogenation reactions. In the Bertrand group, Victor is applying his interest in main group chemistry to synthesizing new carbenes with organocatalysis applications. Outside of the fume hood, Victor is the UCSD Graduate Student Association Vice President of External Affairs and directs the advocacy efforts of the Association.
